Project:Translation Page Creation

From a translator's Word Document you can create an HTML document that can be converted into Wiki Style text to be pasted into a new translation text page, introduction, or bibliography.

  1. Copy word document
  2. Paste document into new TextEdit.
  3. Save rtf as html file
  4. open html file in BBEdit
  5. copy html code (only copy the content between the <body> tags - the text part, none of the header stuff)
  6. paste into the online converter here: http://w-i-k-i.appspot.com/

NOTE: sometimes 4 apostrophes are put near each other (when 2 italics are side-by-side) which creates a bold where there shouldn't be

NOTE: some spacing needs to be fixes, but copying the wikimarkup back into BBedit to clean it up should make it easy

The Main Page for a translation shall be a mother page with a number of children (subpages) according to the sections of the text submitted by the translator.

THESE PAGES SHOULD ALL BE PREFIXED WITH the word DRAFT:

DON'T FORGET to make a REDIRECT for the title without the prefix DRAFT

#REDIRECTDraft:TITLEOFTHETRANSLATION

The main page is created using the Draft Translation Form.

This is an example of the basic form of a main page for an English translation:

Introduction
Translation
Footnotes
<references/>

Bibliography
:BIBLIOGRAPHY LINK FOR VOLUME HERE

Outline
Other Information
Draft Translation

  • The Category Page for a translation should contain only the following tag:
Translation Category Page

All Subpages of a translation page should contain the following tag at the top of the page:

<noinclude>subpage</noinclude>

Introduction Page Creation

Above the text of the introduction, use the title from the text of the translation submitted by the translator. Format it like this:

<center><span style="font-size: 14pt">Introduction to TITLE FROM TRANSLATORS TEXT</span></center><br>

Text Translation Page Creation

Format the title of the translation as above:

<center><span style="font-size: 14pt">TITLE FROM TRANSLATORS TEXT</span></center><br>

Outline Page Creation

If the translation has an outline for the text, add an element to the main page underneath the Footnotes and Bibliography section:

Outline
This is the basic form of the /Outline page:

<noinclude>subpage</noinclude>
{|class="mw-collapsible mw-collapsed" style="width:100%;background-color:#336699;color:#FFFFFF"
!The Outline of the Text
|-
|style="width:100%;background-color:#EFEFEF;color:#000000" |
OUTLINE GOES HERE

Bibliography Page Creation

The Bibliography Page for a Volume of translations will be a sub page of the English volume page in the DRAFT namespace.

Example: Volume 14

  • In the Wylie volume information page for volume 14 we have the following metadata:
    • |VolumeTitleTib=ཞི་བྱེད་དང་བཅོད་པོད་གཉིས་པའི་དཀར་ཆག་
    • |VolumeTitleWylie=zhi byed dang bcod pod gnyis pa'i dkar chag
    • |VolumeTitleTrans=Draft:Zhije and Chöd Text Collections Volume 2
  • Therefore, the bibliography page will be Draft:Zhije and Chöd Text Collections Volume 2/Bibliography

Every volume bibliography subpage should contain the following template at the top of the page:

<noinclude>Translation Bibliography</noinclude>
  • The Bibliography Page will have the citations for all translations in a volume and will be submitted by the translator.

Format the bibliography with indents, italics, and bold as submitted by the translator.
